On Sep. 3, Vice Principal, Michelle Wall welcomed APX Alarm as part of the school’s assembly celebrating their 50 year anniversary and thanked APX Alarm for the $10,000 donation to be used for the 2009-2010 school year.  APX Alarm has become a partner in education with the school by also instituting a mentoring and tutoring after-school program with employees committed to make a difference in student’s lives.

At the assembly, Ms. Wall showed students what $10,000 can buy to illustrate how much this gift will mean to them.

  • 144,000 pencils
  • 16,064 glue sticks
  • 714 student chairs
  • 2,640 books
  • 2,638 boxes of markers or
  • 8,571 notebooks

“It has been a privilege to be associated with such wonderful school administrators and teachers who are as passionate and committed to help these students reach their potential,” said Krissy Weekley, program manager for APX’s charitable foundation.  “We hope to be just a small part in helping these young children realize the potential they have.”

Ms. Wall told students that while the money is greatly appreciated and will go a long way towards supplying much-needed supplies, the volunteer work by APX employees is invaluable.  Many of the children come from challenging home environments and lack proper role models in their lives.  By having tutors and mentors show genuine interest in their school work is a first step in helping students succeed in the classroom.

As the principal of Sunset View, I want to thank APX for their amazing partnership. We have truly felt like we’ve been adopted. With tough budget times facing schools, APX’s donation and volunteerism has substantially relieved many pressures. Krissy Weekley, our liaison, continues to communicate with us about our needs. I am humbled by and thankful for the great people at APX who share so much with our school. You help us every day!
