Recently, the APX Family Foundation came in contact with Gentrie Hansen, a happy 14-year old girl who was diagnosed with Pediatric Gastro Paresis ( which means her stomach is paralyzed). Because of this condition she has been unable to eat or drink anything since the beginning of the year.

On Wednesday, July 21, 30 APX employees volunteered their time to help build with Habitat for Humanity in Utah County. Habitat for Humanity is an organization committed to helping families have homes. This organization was started in 1976 as an answer to the poor living conditions in Georgia. To date Habitat for Humanity has built over 300,000 homes, providing shelter for 90 million people throughout the world.

This past week, members of the APX Alarm central monitoring station partnered with the Feed My Starving Children organization to prepare meal boxes for those in need. As a group, they prepared 175 boxes containing 37,800 meals which could feed 104 children for a full year.

“I felt blessed and humbled to help prepare these meals. Seeing the before and after pictures of the children all over the world that received the meals was amazing. I never knew how good it could feel to help,” said APX representative, Jennifer Brezniak.

The Southern Missouri office decided to donate blood on their day of service. The local blood bank was experiencing a shortage, only having a day’s worth of certain blood types available for the hospital. So on June 30th, the office started their day early and all who were able and qualified (most of the office) donated blood. The blood bank was very appreciative. Although some got a bit woozy after donating, most were happy to have been able to contribute to the community.

Last week, the APX Alarm Modesto sales office had a great team building experience by helping clean the donation center and provide day care for the Modesto St. John’s Shelter Program for Women.

“I loved seeing the smiles on the faces of the little kids. They were so glad to just have someone to play with,” said APX Representative, Roger Evershed.

The APX Edmonton sales team turned out in full force to help assist the local Meals on Wheels program in Edmonton, Alberta. The programs project directors were impressed with commitment to serve and how respectful they were to others.

On June 30, the Red Deer, Alberta sales team replaced their sales binders with aprons for an afternoon helping serve lunch to senior citizens at the Golden Circle Resource Center. Team members are planning a return trip later in July.

“They (APX Alarm) were a hit with the ladies,” said United Way Campaign Aide, Pamela Dixon. “One of the guys, Chris, even played piano before lunch as everyone was coming in. The diners really enjoyed having them.”

The Dakota sales team is going to the dogs as they helped the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society as part of their day of giving service project.

“Everyone had a great time walking dogs, bathing dogs, and helping out at the Humane Society,” said APX Dakota team member, Ruth Nay.

As part of the APX day of service, the Birmingham, Alabama sales and technician teams helped serve meals to the homeless through the Downtown Rescue Mission. The mission is a place of refuge – offering different charities for the homeless in Alabama. Last year alone, the mission served over 170,000 meals to those in need.

The Austin, Texas team partnered with the Round Rock Area Serving Center to sort donations, clear out unusable items and unload a truck of used computers and printers.

“Giving back to the communities is something we wanted to integrate into our summer program,” said APX Alarm, Co-Manager Zak Murray. We sweat and fight next to each other every day. It was good to see the smiles and service that also brought our office together,”

America’s Second Harvest has been providing food relief for low-income seniors in Savannah, Georgia are for seniors in our community since 1984 through our Brown Bag for the Elderly program. As part of the APX “Day of Giving” volunteers from APX Alarm joined other community volunteers at the food bank to pack 1,700 bags with about 20 pounds of food including beef stew, canned tuna, canned pork, shelf stable milk, apple sauce, prunes, grits, egg noodles, tomato soup, canned beans, canned corn, canned mixed vegetables, walnuts, and dry black-eyed peas. The bags provide enough food for at least five meals for income eligible senior citizens in our area.

On Saturday June 19, APX Alarm participated in Run With Angels which is an annual 5k run. The run took place throughout the beautiful gardens at Thanksgiving Point. The event is inspired and hosted by author and inspirational speaker Pam Hansen. All of the proceeds from this race benefit women’s and children’s services as well as Angel Watch. Angel Watch provides bereavement counseling and support for families who discover their baby has a life threatening or life limiting condition.

On April 20, out-fitted with 10 laptop computers and a new printer graciously donated by APX GIVES BACK, I spent two days on a plane headed for the Republic of Congo in Africa.

A friend of mine emailed me several weeks earlier inquiring about donations for a school in the Congo that is in desperate need of monetary support, primarily for a few computers. He described the school and students as follows:

The school is an L-shaped building with open windows and doors. It houses K thru 12th grade students, and is on supplemental electricity from the government so there are times when it’s run by generator.

APX Alarm has announced today that it has made a financial contribution to assist the programs and mission of the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Salt Lake.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake have provided life-enriching services and opportunities to young people for over 36 years. Their programs and core services reach nearly 9,000 youth members between the ages of 6-18 every year.

As part of an ongoing demand for food bank contributions and services, APX Alarm has made a contribution to the Community Action Food Bank. Serving as the second-largest food bank in Utah, the Community Action Food Bank distributes over 3 million pounds of food each year to six food pantries and several other agencies. Last year alone, the organization distributed food to over 30,000 households in Utah.
