America’s Second Harvest has been providing food relief for low-income seniors in Savannah, Georgia are for seniors in our community since 1984 through our Brown Bag for the Elderly program. As part of the APX “Day of Giving” volunteers from APX Alarm joined other community volunteers at the food bank to pack 1,700 bags with about 20 pounds of food including beef stew, canned tuna, canned pork, shelf stable milk, apple sauce, prunes, grits, egg noodles, tomato soup, canned beans, canned corn, canned mixed vegetables, walnuts, and dry black-eyed peas. The bags provide enough food for at least five meals for income eligible senior citizens in our area.
As part of the APX Family Foundation, the company made the donation with part of the proceeds used towards the purchase of a much needed forklift required to move and store donated items at the Community Action Services facility. The remaining portion of the donation went towards the purchase and assembly of Thanksgiving dinner for over 820 local families in need. The boxes would feed up to 4,000 people. [More...]
